Networking of actors for the interdisciplinary development of complex networked socio-technical systems for the value creation of tomorrow (Advanced Systems Engineering)

Scientific project Digitalisation will have a decisive impact on the socio-technical systems of tomorrow: On the one hand, the complexity of technical systems is increasing; on the other hand, the associated production systems and the future organization of work are also changing. Mastering complexity requires a cross-disciplinary approach. A system-oriented and model-based development system is required that encompasses all areas of strategic product planning and production system development, including the associated design of work, the associated services and the consideration of the entire value creation system. Advanced Systems Engineering (ASE) offers new approaches to this problem. There is a great need for research in this area with regard to engineering in the environment of digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) and the continuous mapping of the product and service life cycle. In addition, the internal and cross-company organization must be researched and cross-disciplinary development methods for the interaction of the players involved must be created. In order to achieve the necessary impact from the project results, which will decisively advance Germany as a location for innovation in international competition, higher-level measures are indispensable. In this way, industrial solutions gained can be dovetailed, refined and prioritised with a view to the future. Previous development methodological work has not gone far enough in this respect. The scientific project AdWiSE is being created for the task of such accompanying research.

Problem

The collaborative projects in the call will design and develop demand-oriented ASE solutions and implement them as prototypes in industrial application scenarios. Previous development methodological work does not go far enough here.

Objective and Approach

The scientific project AdWiSE will be created for the task of such accompanying research. It will develop its own visionary findings and integrate and transfer them into a national strategy. The measures identified will be made usable as a roadmap and made available to stakeholders from business, science and politics. In this way, a well-founded position of success can be ensured for Germany as a business location, from which complex systems can be professionally developed and quickly brought to market success. In this way, a decisive contribution to value creation and employment is achieved. The multidisciplinary consortium will work on scientific, practical, social partnership and societal issues in equal measure for the strategy-oriented investigation of the ASE complex of topics, for the accompanying synergy bundling of the joint projects and for the intensive transfer of results. In a first step, a systematic analysis of the ASE topic complex will be carried out in order to identify essential R&D directions. The survey of current trends and an international benchmark will result in the ASE strategy and the Roadmap 2025 with corresponding recommendations for action for the stakeholders. The second step is the internal and external exploitation of the collaborative project results by focusing on the content in groups. The exchange between the collaborations is supported by joint events and a working platform. In addition to the processed collaborative project results, AdWiSE will produce specific results that will be made available to scientists and specialists in companies as practice-oriented action aids, toolboxes and in the form of innovative presentation formats.

Results and Values

After the end of the collaborative projects, the overall results will be scientifically followed up, consolidated and incorporated into university research and teaching in a third step. Through thematic bundling and processing, the collaborative project results will be transferred to broad industrial application with improved support. In addition, important suggestions are given for the professional profiles of the actors. By updating the target image and the strategy, the project also provides essential impulses for decision-makers from industry, politics and society.
