Kraków, Poland

Jagiellońskie Centrum Innowacji sp. z o.o.Jagiellonian Innovation Center Sp. z o.o. is the entity that manages the Life Science Park in Krakow, improving cooperation between companies operating in the life science sector using the resources of, among others, Jagiellonian University.

The Jagiellonian Innovation Center Company was established in 2004 by Jagiellonian University in Krakow to build and manage the infrastructure of the Life Science Park, as well as to provide a broad set of services for entrepreneurs and scientists developing life sciences. JCI's offerings primarily include rental of laboratory space, financial support for companies within the JCI-operated funds, contract research performed in the company's laboratories, formulation and contract manufacturing of cosmetics. In addition, JCI offers clinical research conducted in a dedicated, specialized facility at the JCI Clinical Research Center.

The JCI Clinical Research Center is one of the most modern centers specialized in conducting commercial clinical trials and carrying out complex research and development projects in medicine and related sciences. JCI's CBK supports units that plan to conduct non-commercial projects by offering imaging labs and the possibility of conducting clinical phases for them, i.e. clinical trials with patients or healthy volunteers. The center has the latest generation of diagnostic equipment, including MRI and CT scanners, as well as a state-of-the-art treatment room. It is possible to lease/rent the infrastructure and space of the JCI Clinical Research Center for research and development or innovative activities.

The JCI has six state-of-the-art laboratories where it offers contract research services performed on behalf of external entities, including primarily pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food companies.

- Biological Analyses Laboratory delivers a wide range of in vitro biological and cellular assays, including cytotoxicity testing and skin or eye irritation studies using reconstructed human tissue models. It performs molecular biology assays such as PCR, qPCR and RT-PCR, supports permeation studies on reconstructed human skin and conducts oxidative-stress and cell-viability analyses. These capabilities allow the laboratory to support safety, efficacy and mechanistic studies for cosmetic, pharmaceutical and medical-device products. It also provides analytical support for gene-expression and nucleic-acid-based assessments relevant to R&D processes. The laboratory serves projects requiring comprehensive biological evaluation in controlled conditions.

- Instrumental Analyses Laboratory provides qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses using chromatographic and mass-spectrometry techniques. It employs HPLC, UHPLC, GC and SFC systems combined with advanced mass spectrometry to identify and quantify compounds with high precision. The laboratory supports raw-material verification, impurity profiling and stability testing for a wide variety of products. Operating under ISO 9001:2015 and authorized for physicochemical testing of medicinal products, it ensures regulatory-compliant analytical services. Its capabilities are suited to pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical and biotechnology companies requiring reliable instrumental analysis.

- Spectroscopic Analyses Laboratory performs analyses based on advanced spectroscopic methods to support structural and compositional studies. It provides essential data for evaluating purity, stability and molecular characteristics of materials and formulations. The laboratory supports R&D workflows that rely on non-destructive or structure-specific techniques. Its analytical scope complements the work of the instrumental and biological laboratories. These services benefit clients in chemical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and material-science domains.

- Quality Control Laboratory conducts physicochemical and microbiological assessments to support production processes and product validation. It performs stability studies, preservative-efficacy tests, raw-material qualification and analysis of finished products. The laboratory monitors water quality, air cleanliness and surface contamination in production environments. Operating in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, ISO 22716 and GMP requirements, it ensures compliance with regulatory and industry standards. It supports companies manufacturing cosmetics, medical devices and other regulated products.

- Microbiological Laboratory performs microbiological analyses of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, environmental, biological, veterinary and clinical materials. It uses classical culture methods and microbial enumeration techniques, complemented by rapid microorganism identification via MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The laboratory assesses microbial purity, evaluates preservative systems and conducts custom microbiological studies aligned with client needs. Its capabilities ensure reliable, accurate and timely microbiological data. The facility supports routine QC as well as advanced research projects across multiple sectors.

- Protein Production Laboratory, recently added to JCI’s laboratory portfolio, is dedicated to producing proteins for research and development applications. It supports projects requiring reliable protein generation for analytical, biological or functional studies. This laboratory expands the Park’s capabilities into biomolecule production, complementing existing biological and analytical services. It is positioned to meet the needs of biotechnology, pharmaceutical and academic users working with recombinant or purified proteins. The unit strengthens JCI’s ability to support early-stage development in protein-based technologies.

- Tissue and Cell Laboratory - offers isolation and culture of stem cells from heterogeneous populations, including those derived from: bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, Worthon's jelly, mobilized peripheral blood and other mature tissues, as well as preparation of the obtained cells for autologous application, cell banking and storage.

The Jagiellonian Innovation Center manages the Life Science Park, which is located in the southwestern part of Krakow, adjacent to the Jagiellonian University campus. The Park has convenient connections to the city center and ring road, as well as the John Paul II Krakow-Balice International Airport. Life Science Park is included in the Krakow Special Economic Zone.

The Park's infrastructure includes primarily specialized laboratory and office space for lease. The Park is suitable for any adaptation of infrastructure to allow activities in the fields of biotechnology, biomedicine, biology, chemistry, pharmacology, physics, nanotechnology and environmental protection.
